OPUS Hotel – Rooftop Restaurant Approval Meeting (Nov. 7, 2008)

This past Halloween, I started off my night of barhopping in Yaletown at Elixir and Opus Bar and arguably one of the cornerstone venues most representative of the YUPPIE crowd. Now, Opus Hotel needs our help and support! Opus Hotel has made an application to the City of Vancouver to allow additional height and floor area to accommodate a seasonal 250-seat rooftop restaurant.

Their fifth and final approval meeting will be at City Hall (457 West 12th Avenue) this Friday, November 7th from 6pm to 8pm and the owner of Opus Hotel, John Evans, is soliciting your presence, support and positive feedback at the meeting.

Erin Templeton Shoppe and Sample Sale (October 23)

Not too long ago, after one of the BC Fashion week shows, I dropped by the Erin Templeton Shoppe (511 Carrall Street) and was delighted to find a quaint little vintage shop in the neighborhood. With her own handmade leather accessories at the front and an assortment of vintage finds throughout the store, this boutique is one of a kind. What added to the homely feel was the fact that Erin Templeton herself was there offering advice on styles, sizing and alteration information on vintage leather jackets. But don’t be fooled, even though her home-base is in Vancouver, according to her website, Erin’s lovingly-made goods can be found not only in Canada but also in the US and Japan. Looking for something to do? Every Monday morning, we present to you “Modern Mix Monday”, a brief but link-filled one-liner review of our past weekend loaded with suggestions to inspire you for your next!

On Saturday, I went to 49th Parallel (2152 West 4th Avenue) for coffee. 49th Parallel is a local (Burnaby) coffee roasting company which supplies coffee beans to buyers all around the world and is founded by the same guys who brought us Caffè Artigiano. I have only been to 49th Parallel twice, but it’s a great meeting spot to take a break from shopping along West 4th. Last time I ordered the Blue Earl Grey which came in a cute, baby blue teapot. This time, I ordered off the menu, a Chai Tea Latte.
