SOCIETY Dining Lounge – opens October 29, 2009

The Glowbal Group’s newest initiative, SOCIETY Dining Lounge (1257 Hamilton Street), opens next Thursday, October 29th. With its slogan “Opposites Attracts”, this restaurant promises a contrast between glamour and comfort, with cuisine that embodies the union of opposites. For example, childhood staples are given a modern twist with “refined, inventive ingredients”. Look out for their Tomato Soup with Mini Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Shake n’ Bake Chicken.

Décor boldly contrasts glamour with comfort. Its 40-seat street-side patio with eggplant-hued leather banquettes and wicker chairs lend a feel of Sunset Strip to the loading-dock sidewalks of Hamilton Street. Inside is where SOCIETY comes together. Overhead, two oversized electric pink, handcrafted Mod-Murano chandeliers set the tone. Below, snug banquettes of deep purple and pearly leather, and tufted black-leather bar stools with striking gold legs set apart the more casual brasserie chairs. Upstairs in the lounge, up-lit bronze acrylic panels line the back wall and combine with an eclectic mix of lounge seating options. Bronze toned wooden screens of geometric interlocking circles surround the double height space, separating the lounge from the dining area below, creating allure and a sense of mystery.

SIGG Bottle Exchange at U-Life

Have you heard about how SIGG admitted that some of their bottles contain BPA? Yes, those streamlined, metal waterbottles which were all the rage after the plastic Nalgene ones were tossed away due to concerns over those very same BPA chemicals.
.
All SIGG bottles made prior to August 2008 have the former water-based epoxy liner which contains trace amounts of BPA. It is easy to determine which liner you have, as they are 2 distinctly different colours. Click here to see photos comparing the two.
.
Anyway, at least one retail outlet is taking advantage of this news to draw you into their shop! U-Life Accessories, a gift boutique just off West 4th Avenue on Vine, is offering a voluntary exchange for SIGG bottles manufactured prior to August 2008 – no proof of puchase needed, just make sure your bottle has the old liner and they will exhange it for a bottle of the same size!

All you have to do is bring your old bottle into our store in order to exchange it for a new SIGG bottle with the next generation “Eco Care” liner. Providing the same quality and protection afforded by the previous liner, this new powder-based, co-polyester coating has been thoroughly tested and is certified to be 100% free of BPA, phthalates, BADGE, BFDGE, and NOGE.

A natural combination, Chocolat Malté layers rich dark chocolate malted mousse and chocolate malted ganache on a dense and chewy white chocolate blondie foundation. Coco et Figue is a coconut sensation of light coconut rum parfait between layers of coconut dacquoise and buttery olive oil cake spread with a vanilla fig compote.
