Two of Hearts – Boutique Opening (Saturday Feb. 14)

On Saturday February 14th (just another day, right?), Two of Hearts, a local fashion label, is having the grand opening of their boutique at 3728 Main Street. Visit on opening day, between 11am and 7pm, and share your love for fashion with the designers, Jenny Yen and Tabitha Savoie, who will be featuring a ten percent discount on their Togs, Two of Hearts and CiCi line.
.

They have chosen to decorate their establishment with the same twist that can be found in their creations; “the theme of the store is eco chic with a vintage twist” says Jenny. The new space, formerly Madison’s on Main, incorporates the old wooden racks with new wood floors to create a clean natural feel. While a mix of modern and antique furniture and a splash of sassy red paint makes it a fun and flirty environment to find that perfect Valentine’s Day dress.

.
Here’s another bonus: the first 25 people through the door will recieve gift bags packed with a whole bunch of nifty goodies from Vancouver artists.

Abio Bikes – Mindful Commuting in Chainless Style

If Abio Bikes’ eye-catching purple or green shades didn’t demand your attention on first glance, then the attractive and intelligent design of these hot new folding, chainless bikes will definitely make you stop and look!

Both originally from Vancouver themselves, Abio Bikes’ co-owners Mike Tran and Teck Chu have re-thought the daily biking experience with their line of portable, storable, easy-to-use-and-enjoy bicycles. Mike explains that Abio Bikes was formed when founder Teck visited Europe and Asia, and returned with an inspiration to expand the folding bike alternatives in North America. “To liberate urban commuters”: the bikes fold for effortless carrying and storage, and operate without traditional bike chains, so users can wear fashionable clothing worry-free.

Liberty Merchant Company is once again hosting Taste BC to gather British Columbia’s food and beverage industry in an effort to raise money for the BC Children’s Hospital’s Oak Tree Clinic which specializes in providing care and services to sufferers of HIV/AIDS. The second annual celebration of local food and drink takes place:

.
According to Regan Schwartz, the Director of Marketing at Liberty:

I know dieting is a new year’s resolution for everyone, but I think all of us would agree that Taste BC is one event the diet can be put on hold for. Not only is it a gastronomical celebration of all that’s great about British Columbia, the gathering also benefits people in our community who need our help more than ever

Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008

So, this morning, on The Beat 94.5, they played a Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008. DJ Earworm (pretty horrible name, eh? – sorry) used Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” as the background track and described the “Viva La Pop” mashup as a “symphonic feel”. It’s actually quite good and unusual for pop songs to be mixed together like this. I suppose it’s something different and refreshing from listening to Armin Van Buuren’s trance yearmix non-stop. Anyway, there’s a music video for it as well – You download it here. The tracklist is below:

  • Flo Rida Featuring T-Pain – Low
  • Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
  • Alicia Keys – No One
  • Lil Wayne Featuring Static Major – Lollipop
  • Timbaland Featuring OneRepublic – Apologize
  • Jordin Sparks Duet With Chris Brown – No Air
  • Sara Bareilles – Love Song
  • Usher Featuring Young Jeezy – Love in This Club
  • Chris Brown – With You
  • Chris Brown – Forever
  • Ray J & Yung Berg – Sexy Can I
  • Rihanna – Take a Bow
  • Coldplay – Viva La Vida
  • Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
  • T.I. – Whatever You Like
  • Rihanna – Disturbia
  • Rihanna – Don’t Stop the Music
  • Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful of Sunshine
  • Chris Brown Featuring T-Pain – Kiss Kiss
  • Ne-Yo – Closer

Vancouver Fashion Week – Call for Volunteers

Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) is looking for volunteers for the Fall/Winter 2009 season of shows! If you are interested, email Shallom Johnson (VFW coordinator) at shallom@vanfashionweek.com with a cover letter and resume.
.
VFW is currently accepting applications for the following positions/roles:

  • Show coordinators
  • Stylists
  • Designer liaisons (clothing/shoes/accessories/jewelry)
  • Buyer liaisons
  • Media liaisons
  • Sponsor liaisons
  • PR & marketing
  • Makeup and hair coordinators
  • Seating/VIP coordinators
  • Backstage and front of house staff.

What VFW needs from you: effective communication skills, ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, delegate when necessary, work independently and with a team, accomplish many things under tight deadlines and have professional writing skills.
.
Experience in the fashion industry is not completely necessary but is a huge plus – it’s a lot easier to organize something of this magnitude when we have a team of people on board who understand how the industry works and what is required of them in that respect.
.
Show dates are still TBC but will be one week in March 2009. VFW needs people who can get on board from January onwards, and who are willing to make a firm commitment and deliver on their promises.
