2010-candlelightconservation

Brought to you by Tourism Vancouver and BC Hydro, over 60 Vancouver restaurants are “dimming the lights and dialing up the ambiance” for the 2nd annual Candlelight Conservation Dinner to raise awareness about energy conservation and the simple actions that can add up to make a big difference! Some of my favourite participating restaurants include: Cru, Las Margaritas (just went there for Mexican food last night!), Maurya Indian Cusine, One Hundred Days, Salt Tasting Room, Sanafir, The Refinery and SIP Resto Lounge. EVENT RECAP: Timeraiser 2010

Where can you find an event that combines learning about volunteer opportunities, a silent auction for local artwork, appetizers & drinks, all in a classy but relaxed environment? Timeraiser. In a nutshell, this annual art auction event encourages volunteerism towards non-profit activities by offering an opportunity to purchase artwork by pledging volunteer hours instead of money. With 12 months to complete your pledged volunteer hours, when you finally take home your piece of art, it becomes a reminder of your goodwill and experience with Timeraiser.

Timeraiser (September 23, 2010)

Have you always wanted to purchase artwork without having to pay cold, hard cash for it?  Now here’s your chance to “buy” artwork using volunteer hours as the currency!   The third annual Vancouver Timeraiser (at the Roundhouse Community Center in Yaletown) is part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town. Throughout the evening meet with different organization (“agencies”) and match your skills to their needs.  Once you’ve chosen the appropriate agency, start bidding … in volunteer hours!! You have 12 months to fulfill your pledge to the agency … only then can you bring your artwork home as a reminder of your goodwill.  I’ll be at the Timeraiser media event next week so stay tuned for more information about the Timeraiser organization, the contributing artists and their artwork, the agencies, and the volunteers involved who make this happen!  In the meantime, entrance tickets for $20 can be purchased here for Timeraiser 2010.
