Florals meet minimalism at Lily & Roo, a newly opened nail salon in Kitsilano which uses only non-toxic and vegan-friendly products for their manicure and pedicure services.
Arriving at Lily & Roo for my manicure and pedicure, the first thing I noticed about the salon was the beautiful, dried floral chandelier hanging from the ceiling. I later found out that the decor pieces are by local florist Leis de Buds, which sets the salon’s Westcoast feminine vibe. The salon itself is fairly small, but its minimalist decor makes it feel more spacious with with clean lines, comfy grey chairs, and floating shelves which displays the salon’s collection of nailpolish.
All products used for Lily and Roo’s polish and nail art services are a minimum of “5-free” — free of the chemicals formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, and camphor. Brands include Zoya, a pioneer in natural polish, Deborah Lippman, an award winning formula founded by a leading celebrity manicurist, and Madam Glam, known for being cruelty-free and PETA certified. All three lines were selected for Lily & Roo because of their high-quality and long-lasting formulations which exclude the most harmful chemicals found in nail polish and also their commitment to never testing on animals.
“Beauty doesn’t have to be harmful. I wanted to create a safe space where my clients can breathe easy and fully relax in, knowing that the products we use in every step of our services are natural or non-toxic.” – Chloe Lee, Owner, Lily & Roo
Other skin and bodycare brands used in Lily and Roo’s non-toxic treatments include Nootka & Sea, Angelica Root Organics, and Chéile — which are all BC-based products. Their natural products are used for the salon’s pedicure salt soaks, cuticle oils, lotions, and exfoliating scrubs.
Vancouver needs more service providers who are focused on beauty without harm. Lily & Roo is a refreshing change from your typical nail salon — and affordable too! Nail services begin at $30 and online booking is available at lilyandroo.ca.
