On December 2, Japanese lifestyle retailer MUJI will be opening its Canadian flagship store on Vancouver’s Robson Street. With 14,507 square feet of retail space, this will be MUJI’s largest store outside of Asia.
Mujirushi Ryohin, MUJI in Japanese, translates as “no-brand quality goods.” MUJI was founded in Japan in 1980 and now has more than 800 stores worldwide, carrying more than 7,000 items from household goods, to stationary, to packaged food, to apparel. With the goal of making daily life pleasant, MUJI is globally recognized for its high-quality products that are functional and well designed, but at the same time basic, minimalistic, and reasonably priced.
“This year marks a big step for MUJI Canada as we finally expanded to Western Canada and we will soon open our first flagship store. The goal of the Robson Street store is to deepen our relationships with local communities while offering new services and products in a distinctive retail space. In addition, by creating a relaxing environment with coffee, books and plants, we hope to help customers to make better choices toward creating their own pleasant lifestyle.” – Toru Akita, President, MUJI Canada.
The Robson Street location will not only carry MUJI Canada’s full range of merchandise including household goods, apparel and food, but it will also feature a brand-new store concept and many products and services never seen before in Canada including: MUJI Labo, a line which experiments with new styles, materials and manufacturing processes, MUJI Coffee Counter, a coffee bar serving Vancouver’s Ethical Bean Coffee, MUJI Yourself, a customization service including embroidery, stamps, gift wrapping and label printing, and the MUJI Aroma Bar, which allows customers to create customized fragrance blends.
The opening of MUJI on Robson Street is part of the brand’s Canadian growth plan. This Vancouver opening joins three other Canadian MUJI locations in Ontario, and the other BC location at Metropolis at Metrotown.
MUJI on Robson Street will be opening on Saturday December 2 at 10am.
