Yule Duel Gastown

EVENT: Festive “Yule Duel” Outdoor Carolling Competition Returns to Gastown (Dec 7)

For the third consecutive year, hundreds of voices from more than 20 of Vancouver’s best choirs will echo through the cobblestone streets of Gastown in BC’s largest outdoor carolling competition.

On December 7 from 6pm to 9pm, Gastown will be transformed into a festive wonderland of holiday songs and lights.  Visitors wandering down Water Street will see choirs with singers of all ages stationed along the way. They’ll be performing seasonal favorites sung in a range of languages and choral styles including rock, pop, gospel, and barbershop.

For a donation of $5.00, spectators can buy voting ballots to help their favorite choirs get into the finals for the dueling sing-offs.  Coming back to defend their titles are past Yule Dule champions Saint James Music Academy, Sweet Scarlet, and the Notre Dame Platinum Girls.   Funds raised will go to May’s Place, a hospice providing compassionate end-of-life care to the most vulnerable in Vancouver’s downtown eastside.  Last year, an astounding $58,000 was raised for the charity.

“Gastown takes great pride in hosting this world-class choral event. It’s quickly become a favorite holiday affair for Vancouverites that showcases the talent and generosity of Lower Mainland citizens.  It’s magical to see Gastown transform into this festive wonderland of song while supporting an important cause.” – Leanore Sali, Executive Director, Gastown Business Improvement Society.

Gastown merchants will also be open late during the event, with the Tacofino Food Truck in operation for those looking for a hot bite to eat.
