Etsy sellers are crafting a new face of entrepreneurship and are the driving force behind a new economy. The annual Etsy: Made in Canada market is back in Vancouver for its 4th year on the weekend of September 23 & 24. The Vancouver version of this market, at Rocky Mountaineer, is part of a nation-wide celebration of 39 communities, making this Canada’s largest pop-up shopping event.
Organized by a collaborative team of Etsy Team Captains and volunteers, Vancouver’s Etsy Team will be transforming the Rocky Mountaineer into a marketplace bursting with uniquely handcrafted goods and vintage treasures. Browse through an impressive array of 150 local sellers, including AW by Andrea Wong, Coghlan Cottage Farm, Urban Walls and shake the hands of the people behind “handmade.”
“Etsy: Made in Canada continues to play a key role in defining the Canadian maker movement. With 39 communities across Canada participating and more creative entrepreneurs than ever before, it’s clear that this event is continuing to grow and flourish. It’s a space that allows shoppers to find unique goods they won’t find elsewhere, while encouraging meaningful connections between makers and buyers.” – Erin Green, Managing Director, Etsy Canada
A recent 2017 Etsy seller census report found that 39 per cent of sellers consider their creative business their sole occupation. The global online marketplace supports microbusinesses in acting as a platform to sell goods for many people who might not have started a business otherwise. For 49 per cent of Etsy sellers, Etsy was the first place they sold their goods. Over the years Etsy: Made in Canada has grown exponentially, allowing sellers to evolve and connect face-to-face with larger audiences.
Don’t forget to bring your holiday lists, as there’s something for everyone including clothing and accessories, home décor, vintage finds, and lots of cute items for kids and baby. Craftoholics and gift-finders can also get their DIY on with workshops led by the Etsy makers and learn about the process behind each makers’ craft.
