EVENT: Vancouver Gets Up Close with Van Gogh at Oakridge Centre & Fairmont Pacific Rim (Feb 24 to March 27)

The Fairmont Pacific Rim and Oakridge Centre have partnered with the Van Gogh Museum Edition Tour to bring nine replicas of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works to Vancouver.  From now until March 27, 2016, reproductions of some of the master’s most celebrated works are on display at Oakridge Mall as part of the Van Gogh Museum Edition Tour.  These include Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, and The Harvest.

What is unique about these reproductions is that they are highly realistic due to a process called reliefography.  Through this process developed by Fujifilm Belgium and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the brushstrokes and gestures of the original works are captured three-dimensionally and the copies on display are of the same size, brightness, colour, and texture as the originals.  The reproductions are also highly durable and visitors can get up close and personal by touching and feeling them.  The reliefographs are part of a limited and numbered series.  Each reproduction cost $10,000 to make and are on sale for $40,000 each with profits going to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

In addition to the Van Gogh Museum Edition Tour, on display at the Fairmont Pacific Rim is a state-of-the-art reliefograph print and live art installation of Van Gogh’s, The Bedroom.  This installation on the second floor of the hotel is open to the public and visitors are invited to climb into the Van Gogh bed, take an artistic selfie, and enter a social media contest for a chance to win a one-night stay at the hotel.

The Van Gogh Museum Edition Tour at Oakridge Mall is located in the West Galleria and admission is $5.  Guided tours are offered three times a day.  It is a travelling tour and will be heading to Ottawa and Quebec after it leaves Vancouver on March 27, 2016.
