In the past year, the fashion meets fitness “athleisure” trend has really taken off. The Vancouver-based Karma re-brands from yogawear to fashionable fitness, while RYU’s first location in Kitsilano focuses on being BEAUTIFUL/TOUGH. Even bigger chains are paying attention to this trend, as the Hudson’s Bay Company opened a 10,000sqft athletic department, and Classpass continues to expand across the globe.
Inspired by the evolution of the athleisure trend, ARROW by Birchbox features makeup, skincare and body products that are lightweight, long-wearing and refreshing, designed to enhance natural beauty during and after physical activity.
“The goal with ARROW is to provide subtle color and practical skincare and body products that make women feel fresh and confident wherever their busy days take them.” – Katia Beauchamp, Co-Founder and CEO, Birchbox
Everything in the line is vegan, paraben-free, cruelty-free and gluten-free. The three debut items in ARROW’s inaugural collection includes:
- REVIVE Cooling Cheek Tint (C$24): Lightweight, long-wearing cheek tint that adds a natural-looking hue with a gentle cooling sensation. Available in two shades: Berry Flush (deep raspberry) and Pink Punch (bright pink).
- BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm (C$18): High-tech moisturizing balm that reacts with the pH of users’ lips to enhance their natural color and create a unique shade of pink. Contains mango seed butter, vitamin E and luffa seed oil for hydration and protection.
- PROTECT Aluminum-Free Deodorant (C$12): This aluminum- and alcohol-free deodorant has a bright citrus scent that neutralizes odors with notes of pink grapefruit, mint leaf, ginger flower, sea spray. Free of synthetic dyes and colorants.
Just as Modern Mix Vancouver was able to get our hands on ARROW, we found out that, unfortunately, Birchbox will be suspending their Canadian operations indefinitely. With the current exchange rate and high shipping costs, Birchbox felt that they wouldn’t be able to create the Birchbox beauty experience which would be reasonable to its shoppers and subscribers.
That being said, this will be your last chance in the near future to stock up on any Birchbox favourites, or try out the ARROW starter kit for $47, which include all three launch products. The Birchbox Canada store will be open until April 30, 2016. For more information, visit birchbox.ca.
