The long-running Brix Restaurant & Wine Bar in Yaletown has been revamped and recently re-opened its doors as Brix & Mortar. The newly-renovated restaurant no longer houses George Cocktail Lounge and has instead expanded to a 5,200 square foot, 228-seater with 80 seats spanned across two outdoor patios. With the merge of Brix and George, the new space is now two levels with most of the changes having taken place downstairs. It is now one restaurant with two doors where diners can enter either off Homer or Hamilton. Thankfully Brix’s signature courtyard, popular for weddings and special events, has remained.
With the new aesthetic changes also comes enhancements to the food and beverage menu. The new menu focuses on contemporary Canadian cuisine influenced by Asian, French and Italian flavours. Brix offers a three-course fine dining menu for $42 and snacks and share-plates such as truffled kohlrabi and candied yams with bourbon, orange and candied bacon.
For wine, restaurant patrons will be delighted to find that Brix’s award-winning comprehensive wine menu has stayed as well as its popular wines by the glass program. The cocktails list has been redesigned and diners will find innovative and classic offerings such as Big Flavours in Little China (served in a take-away rice carton!) and Brix’s own take on the Moscow Mule finished with a peat mist.
These changes can only prove to be positive for Brix & Mortar, who is one of the longest-running restaurants in Yaletown. Their relaunch was timed perfectly and coincides with the annual Taste of Yaletown which runs from October 15 to 29. What better time to visit the new Brix & Mortar!
Located at 1138 Homer Street & 1137 Hamilton Street, Brix & Mortar is open from 5:00pm seven days a week.
