Since its inauguration in Vancouver, Modern Mix Vancouver has had the good fortune of being invited each year to the exclusive Terrazza di Peroni, an annual private summer celebration hosted by Peroni Nastro Azzurro. Peroni is Italy’s number one premium beer, a crisp and refreshing lager with an unmistakable character and a touch of creative Italian flair and style.
For the fourth year in a row, Peroni has done a fantastic job of planning an outdoor patio party in Vancouver, to celebrate summer while giving us a taste of Italy. Every year, a perfect, slightly-off-the-beaten-track location is chosen, often an urban outdoor space with a focus on art, culture and design.
In previous years, this party was held at Reflections at Rosewood Hotel Georgia and also at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Rooftop Pavilion. This year, Terrazza di Peroni was held at The Waterfall Building, just outside of Granville Island.
The Waterfall Building is designed by Vancouver architect and urban planner Arthur Erickson, who is also known for his work on The Museum of Anthropology and Koerner Library at UBC and Robson Square. What design elements do these buildings have in common? Signature to the Arthur Erickson style, these are all modern concrete structures with a focus on glass and unusual angles.
Partially shrouded by a waterfall on W. 2nd Avenue, the outdoor terrace of the Waterfall Building is partially hidden from the street, truly giving Terrazza di Peroni an environment of intimacy and exclusivity. We sipped and savoured Peroni, while enjoying delectable Aperitivo Italiano from Coast Restaurant. Zeppole, the Italian version of a donut, was served while a makeshift bar held toppings which could be generously sprinkled on top.
Inside the Waterfall Building, event attendees had the opportunity to admire the Peroni Art Series, which featured nine emerging Canadian artists, who have created original artwork to capture the seasons of Italy.
Peroni is available at various Glowbal Group Restaurant locations including Coast, Black & Blue and Italian Kitchen. Other restaurants include Nicli Antica Pizzeria and Secret Location in Gastown.
