Poke’m – Vancouver Street Vendor

Street cart vendors, mobile food stalls, street eats … whatever you want to call it, the recent development of Vancouver’s street food scene has allowed its hungry, experimental citizens to explore different dishes throughout Vancouver.  I’m always excited to turn a corner and see a bright, colorful mobile structure serving anything other than hotdogs!  My first experience was with Poke’m on the corner of Hornby and Robson.  For $3.75 you can purchase a small dish of meat balls (chicken, beef, fish, fish tofu, fish fritters, or cuttlefish) and combine it with your sauce style of Japanese, Caribbean, Korean, Vietnamese, or traditional curry fishball sauce.  Your food combination is then tossed and grilled on the BBQ, and flavoured with toppings (from seaweed to peanuts) depending on your sauce choice.

The best food I have ever tasted in a looong time. Their sauces are unbelievable. I especially love the Japanese with its sweet wasabi flavor, the taste is so complicated its hard to pinpoint what it is that makes it so yummy. The spicy caribbean jerk taste is definitely has a kick to it and it has the all time favorite for street food…sauteed onions. The Korean bbq sauce is straight forward and to the point but topped with dried pork brought it to another level of ectasy. All their meats are so good…the chicken especially chewy while the fishballs and fishfritters have delicious healthy seafood taste. Pure joy.

Vancouver just got ball-sy with Poke’m! These carb-free delights are awesome! I highly recommend the Japanese Chicken, it’s the best, juicy meat and tasty sauce. What a great savoury snack on the go! Try it for yourself, I bet you will be coming back for more!
