Free Slurpees for You on 7-Eleven’s Birthday (July 11, 2014)

7-Eleven Canada is celebrating 45 years of quality convenience by offering its guests across Canada nearly 750,000 Slurpee drinks on its birthday in its largest giveaway to date.  From B.C. to Ontario, participating stores will each serve up 1,500 Slurpee drinks between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, July 11, or while stocks last.

Slurpee was first created in 1959 by a Kansas hamburger-stand owner.  Using a car air conditioner, he created a piece of equipment that would freeze a carbonated soft drink and serve it in a “sherbert-like” form.  The original name was “Icee”, but in 1965 the “Slurpee” name was born.  While drinking the product through a straw at a brainstorming session, someone commented it made a “slurp” sound and the rest is history.  The first Slurpee in Canada was poured in Calgary, Alberta, in 1969.

Nowadays, enough Slurpee Drinks are sold each year to fill up 12 Olympic sized swimming pools.  To add to the already-exciting lineup of Slurpee flavours, back by popular demand, exclusive summer flavours feature: Mountain Dew Code Red, Mountain Dew White Out and Mountain Dew Super Nova.

Thanks for sharing your birthday with us, 7-Eleven!
