Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008

So, this morning, on The Beat 94.5, they played a Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008. DJ Earworm (pretty horrible name, eh? – sorry) used Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” as the background track and described the “Viva La Pop” mashup as a “symphonic feel”. It’s actually quite good and unusual for pop songs to be mixed together like this. I suppose it’s something different and refreshing from listening to Armin Van Buuren’s trance yearmix non-stop. Anyway, there’s a music video for it as well – You download it here. The tracklist is below:

  • Flo Rida Featuring T-Pain – Low
  • Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
  • Alicia Keys – No One
  • Lil Wayne Featuring Static Major – Lollipop
  • Timbaland Featuring OneRepublic – Apologize
  • Jordin Sparks Duet With Chris Brown – No Air
  • Sara Bareilles – Love Song
  • Usher Featuring Young Jeezy – Love in This Club
  • Chris Brown – With You
  • Chris Brown – Forever
  • Ray J & Yung Berg – Sexy Can I
  • Rihanna – Take a Bow
  • Coldplay – Viva La Vida
  • Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
  • T.I. – Whatever You Like
  • Rihanna – Disturbia
  • Rihanna – Don’t Stop the Music
  • Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful of Sunshine

PURE Nail Bar >> 12 Days of Customer Appreciation (Jan. 5 to 22nd)

As a Christmas present to my friend and MMV Photographer Grace, I took her to Pure Nail Bar to get manicures. There they had a flyer promoting their upcoming “12 Days of Customer Appreciation”. Enjoy a free manicure (worth $25) when you purchase a pedicure ($35) from January 5th to 22nd! “HEY,” you might be saying, “that doesn’t add up to 12 days!!” That’s because this offer is only valid on Mondays to Thursdays. Other fine print: this offer cannot be combined with other promotions including vouchers and stamp cards and is not valid for the purchase of gift certificates. So what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and call any one of their eight locations to book your appointment today! All Pure Nail Bar franchises open from 10am to 7pm.

Vancouver Fashion Week – Call for Volunteers

Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) is looking for volunteers for the Fall/Winter 2009 season of shows! If you are interested, email Shallom Johnson (VFW coordinator) at shallom@vanfashionweek.com with a cover letter and resume.
.
VFW is currently accepting applications for the following positions/roles:

  • Show coordinators
  • Stylists
  • Designer liaisons (clothing/shoes/accessories/jewelry)
  • Buyer liaisons
  • Media liaisons
  • Sponsor liaisons
  • PR & marketing
  • Makeup and hair coordinators
  • Seating/VIP coordinators
  • Backstage and front of house staff.

What VFW needs from you: effective communication skills, ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, delegate when necessary, work independently and with a team, accomplish many things under tight deadlines and have professional writing skills.
.
Experience in the fashion industry is not completely necessary but is a huge plus – it’s a lot easier to organize something of this magnitude when we have a team of people on board who understand how the industry works and what is required of them in that respect.
.
Show dates are still TBC but will be one week in March 2009. VFW needs people who can get on board from January onwards, and who are willing to make a firm commitment and deliver on their promises.

Vancouver Art Gallery – WACK! Coupon (expires Jan. 11, 2009)

I went to the Vancouver Art Gallery today to check out their “WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution” exhibition. In the corner of the second floor, there is this big garbage tree (excuse my lack of eloquence) that visitors are encouraged to interact with by either adding something or taking something way. I left two of my Modern Mix Vancouver business cards on that tree. Can you find them? Click the image below to get $5 off your visit to VAG’s “Wack!” exhibition before January 11th and save $5 off gallery admission.

If that doesn’t work, you can try clicking here.

Earls-Inspired Warm Mulled Wine

By Guest-writer Alicia Woodside

While waiting to be seated this holiday at Earls, I was pleasantly surprised by an offering of warm, delicious mulled wine. The popular restaurant was using a very unique and appealing way to keep customers pleased during the busy holiday rush. After quickly finishing my mug, I requested Earls’ recipe, which uses a simple and flavourful array of ingredients that would please guests at any gathering this winter. Mulled wine is a winter evening delight and a great addition to bring warmth, comfort, and style to any occasion this winter.

Ingredients:

  • 2 bottles red wine: A Zinfandel or Merlot (avoid oak-aged wine, and choose a decent bottle- it doesn’t have to be expensive as it is just being heated anyway)
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cup cognac
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 cracked cardamom pods

Directions:
Heat-up the flavour elements by bringing the two cups water, cinnamon sticks, and cardamom pods to a boil in a saucepan. Once it boils, lower the heat, and add the wine to the aromatic mixture you have created. Gently heat the wine to a simmer, without allowing it to boil, for anywhere from twenty minutes to two hours. Just before serving, stir in the cognac.

Tips:
For a gathering, continue to steep the wine as guests arrive to welcome them with the amazing fragrance of fruit and spices. Serve in mugs, and keep the wine warm throughout the evening in a thermos, as guests are likely to want more
