Timeraiser (September 23, 2010)
Have you always wanted to purchase artwork without having to pay cold, hard cash for it? Now here’s your chance to “buy” artwork using volunteer hours as the currency! The third annual Vancouver Timeraiser (at the Roundhouse Community Center in Yaletown) is part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town. Throughout the evening meet with different organization (“agencies”) and match your skills to their needs. Once you’ve chosen the appropriate agency, start bidding … in volunteer hours!! You have 12 months to fulfill your pledge to the agency … only then can you bring your artwork home as a reminder of your goodwill. I’ll be at the Timeraiser media event next week so stay tuned for more information about the Timeraiser organization, the contributing artists and their artwork, the agencies, and the volunteers involved who make this happen! In the meantime, entrance tickets for $20 can be purchased here for Timeraiser 2010.

Anyone been watching Mad Men this season? If you’ve been inspired by their 1960’s workforce fashion, and want to recreate looks on your own, look not further than Plum Clothing for their Mad Men inspired fall 2010 looks. From their press release:
Suits and separates are making a comeback this fall. A more competitive workforce and influences such as the hit series Mad Men, are leading us into fall 2010 with more structured, classic looks. Let’s face it, we can’t all have a boss that looks like Don Draper but whether you want to mimic the Madison Avenue style of Mad Men or are simply looking to revamp and restyle your office basics, Plum’s fall line helps you accomplish a look that is both office appropriate and will have people talking at the water cooler.
Mousse Salon – Interview with Owner & Hairstylist Donald Chu
Mousse Salon (2641 West 4th Avenue) opened earlier this year in Kitsilano and I was the grateful recipient of a haircut with one of the owners, Donald Chu. In his new modern (but earthy) salon, getting my hair layered and my bangs trimmed, I felt right at home chatting with Donald about his industry experience, hairstyling products and his vision for Mousse Salon.
Sally Hansen – Nail Art Pens
I saw some Sally Hansen nail art pens at London Drugs the other day. Thought it was cool how they came in 8 different colors – white, black, light pink, hot pink, blue, red, silver and gold. The packaging has inspiring looks about what you can do with your nail art pen – from a black/red checkerboard pattern, to flowers, to diagonal stripes and stars.
Developed to dispense just the right amount of color, the precision-tip pen helps you instantly customize your nails and toes so you can design and go. Create styles seen on celebrities, nail art websites or your own styles – the options are endless. Just press the pen point to activate nail color and start designing your own nails, then seal with topcoat when your design is complete.
Some alternative suggestions includes tipping your nails in different colors – like a french manicure but with funkier colors! Or writing letters on your nails to spell out a message. This product retails for $7.95 at selected drugstores across Canada.
