Theatre Under the Stars 2011 (July 8th to August 20th) at Malkin Bowl

This year, rain or shine, I will be volunteering at Theatre Under the Stars. This annual summer live theatre event will be featuring two alternating musicals at Malkin Bowl at Stanley Park. Bye Bye Birdie is set in the 1960’s as all teenages across North America are going crazy for “Elvis Presley-style” rock star Conrad Birdie. Meanwhile, “Anything Goes” takes place on the S.S. American, which is sailing from New York to England. A cast of wacky passengers include a ganger, a wealthy debutante and her mother, a nightclub singer and a wealthy New York businessman.

Kiehl’s Shop for the Cause – 100% to Charity (June 23rd at Noon)

In celebration of its 160th anniversary, Kiehl’s (1025 Robson Street) is holding a national “Shop for the Cause” event on June 23, 2011, at Kiehl’s boutiques across Canada and on Kiehls.ca. 100% of the sales during the “Shop for the Cause” will be donated to associations affiliated with the Canadian Association of Pediatric Oncology Camps.

Space: A New Salon Experience

From Modern Mix Vancouver’s humble beginnings in 2008, we’ve always had a supporter in the charismatic and down-to-earth Michael Levine. Always changing with the times, Levine’s the creator of salon such as Caramel, Statik and Tao, the former two which he has abandoned for his latest project, Space Salon (528 West Broadway at Cambie).

Space is Levine’s conception inspired by New York based Ted Gibson Salon and Arrojo Studio, and the family of Cromeans Salons in San Diego. He spent time throwing ideas around with the three salon owners and has taken design and service ideation, mixing his own ideals of what a salon’s environment and service should be like. The defining feature of Space is that owner Michael Levine focuses each process of the salon experience and creates customized areas for each.
