Odd Bunch Canada Review & Discount Code (“MODERNMIX20”)

Did you know? Grocery stores have strict cosmetic standards and anything that looks or feels a little different is rejected or dumped — this could be as minor as a fruit looking asymmetrical or with a cosmetic blemish that doesn’t affect quality.  To fight food waste while bringing discounted produce to families in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Calgary, Odd Bunch is a subscription-based service that connects surplus or imperfect product from farms directly to households in the community.

  • Odd Bunch discount code: We’d each get 20% off our order if you use this link (or the discount code: “MODERNMIX20”). I subscribe to either the Medium Mixed Box or All Fruit Box for my family of four.

My Odd Bunch Review

I have a family of four with two adults, and two kids three and under. Currently, you can pick from Small, Medium or Large-sized boxes with a combination of fruit and/or vegetables. There is also an organic option for small or medium sized boxes, but I find that the selection is not as varied as the non-organic options.

I initially ordered the ‘Medium Box’ for my family, and everything inside were typical fruit and veggie products that are pretty much staples in our household (avocados, mini oranges, kale, onions, apples, etc.)  but at 30% to 50% off grocery store prices. I haven’t noticed any imperfections in the produce of concern – maybe on occasion there will be cosmetic bumps on lemons, persimmons or butternut squash, but for the most part, the groceries look “normal” to me.

After subscribing to the Odd Bunch “Medium Box” for a year, I eventually switched to the Odd Bunch All Fruit box. I felt like I was accumulating too many veggies (ie. butternut squash, onions, lettuce, etc.) that my family wasn’t cooking through quickly enough on a weekly basis. The fruit box became much more suitable for us because my family (especially with two young children) could easily go through any type of fruit, especially as snacks or in lunchboxes. We also enjoyed receiving less common, or exotic types of fruit like lychee, longan, pomelo, and gooseberries, that we wouldn’t typically buy at a grocery store, to try.

The downside is that there is a shipping fee (for me it’s $5.99) that’s not included in the price of the box so you have to factor that in when calculating the full value of your box.

Oddbunch Substitution

Another thing I love about Odd Bunch is that the weekly contents of your box is not a surprise: you can actually check their website or social media to get a sneak peek at the exact products you’re getting that week, which helps with planning ahead. I also love the ‘substitution’ feature. Each week, you can substitute one item from your box with another. For example, I have previously replaced a head of lettuce with an extra serving of blueberries.

Is Odd Bunch worth it?

I think this is a wonderful and smart idea and an easy way to save money on produce staples. I love always having fruits and/or veggies on hand, especially after switching to the All Fruit box, our family is never short on fruit to pack for lunches or eat as snacks.

I love services that help with fighting waste while offering a discount to its subscribers — a win win! If you’re looking for an Odd Bunch discount code, we’d each get 20% off our order if you use this link (or use the discount code: MODERNMIX20).

Odd Bunch Launches “Quirkies” cold pressed juice – use MODERNMIX20 for 20% off

New as of June 2025 to Odd Bunch subscribers, Odd Bunch’s latest offering is Quirkies, which is 100% cold-pressed juice made from produce the grocery system rejected. Perhaps the fruits are too small, too curvy, or too “imperfect” to sell… but way too good to waste. Quirkies launched with two flavours: Sunshine (Mandarin and Apple Juice) and Blueberry Blend (Blueberry).

Both were delicious, but I specifically enjoyed how Sunshine was like  an orange juice, but something about a mandarin flavour made it a little but different, while the apple added sweetness. It’s priced at such great value – $3.50 per bottle, with a minimum order of 6 x 300ml bottles, with no additional shipping charge when added to your usual Odd Bunch delivery.
