This morning, we had an egg-cellent start to our day at Starbucks. Newly launched in Vancouver, Starbucks Sous Vide Egg Bites are bite-sized and protein-packed, perfect for munching on-the-go.
Translated to English as “under vacuum”, sous vide is a culinary technique where vacuum-sealed food is immersed in water, and cooked at a precise and consistent temperature. This cooking method is popular because it doesn’t require extra fats or oils to cook, but the food also doesn’t lose its flavour.
Two flavours of the Starbucks Sousvide Egg Bites are currently available:
- Egg White & Roasted Red Pepper (vegetarian) – Monterey Jack cheese, with spinach and fire-roasted red peppers.
- Bacon & Gruyere – Gruyere and Monterey Jack cheese, topped with applewood smoked bacon.
Two egg bites make up a serving, and each serving has up to 19 grams of protein. This is a great option if you like egg-y menu items, but don’t want the carbs that go with a typical breakfast sandwich. Having tried both flavours, I prefer the vegetarian option because it tastes more like a healthy breakfast, whereas the cheesy Bacon & Gruyere tastes more like a savoury afternoon snack.
Like everything on the Starbucks menu, Sous Vide Egg Bites can be ordered at any time of day. They are priced at $4.75 each.
