Holiday Gifting Ideas With Canadian Subscription Boxes

Happy to share that I was invited back on Global News this morning to chat about gifting ideas with Canadian Subscription Boxes.  As a Vancouver lifestyle blogger, it’s exciting and important for me to give a voice to local brands who have cool products and ideas to share, and I was fortunate for the opportunity to talk about the modern trend and experience of ordering Subscription Boxes, whether for yourself or as a gift.

So, what exactly is a Subscription Box?  A Subscription Box is a postal mail service which delivers a curated selection of themed products to you on a regular basis.  Depending on your interests, you can subscribe to boxes which feature everything from lifestyle products, beauty products, to loose-leaf tea and candy.

Here are some highlights from the Canadian subscription box brands that I shared about this morning:

BC Living – The Extraordinary Man & Simply Beautiful

The editors of BC Living Magazine spend a good portion of their time discovering, testing, and reviewing products to feature in their online magazine, and now they are bringing the best of the tried, tested, and true, to you in a seasonal Subscription Box.  Simply Beautiful contains beauty items, on-trend decor pieces and other treats to help you live your most beautiful life, while The Extraordinary Man contains attire, accessories and personal care for the modern (mix) man.  Some Vancouver-based brands featured in their most recent Fall 2017 box include: Barber & Co (men’s grooming products), United & Free (natural skincare), and Midnight Paloma (skincare infused with charcoal).

  • The Extraordinary Man Box is $69/box
  • The Simply Beautiful Box is $88/box

White Willow Lifestyle Box

White Willow is a bi-monthly monthly subscription box for women containing a mix of full and sample-sized upscale products in the categories of: beauty, home decor, kitchen gadgets, stationary.  The products featured are cozy and homey, with a gourmet flair.  In the October box, I was excited to receive a Brie Baker and packet of baked brie toppings; not necessarily something I would buy for myself, but now that I have it, I’m excited to bring a brie dip to my next holiday potluck!

  • A bi-monthly subscription to White Willow begins at $49.95/month.

Little Life Box

Started by a mother & daughter duo and based out of Montreal, Little Life Box offers healthy snacks, vitamins, skincare products, and other wellness items to make your life better.  I like the practicality of the products, the mix of product categories in each box, as well as the healthy snacks.  This is a great box for sampling and discovery – if you find something you like, you can always buy more of it!  Burt’s Bees and Ethical Bean Coffee are two of the many brands featured in the Little Life Box I received.

  • A Monthly Subscription to Little Life Box begins at $21/month (min 6-months).

Panty By Post

This was the first mail-order subscription service I encountered back in 2009.  Panty By Post specializes in mailing a surprise pair of beautiful panties on a monthly basis.  Depending on the style you (or the lucky gift recipient) prefers, you can pick from everyday basics, their signature line, or premium luxe.  In the past few years, Panty By Post has also expanded to an online store, where you can buy matching bralette sets and other related items.

  • Your first delivery of Panty By Post is only $9.95.

Mapleblume is a Toronto-based luxury clean beauty box filled with at least 5 full-size skincare and cosmetics products.  Its bi-monthly deliveries are a great way to try premium products formulated with high quality ingredients that’ll nourish your skin.  Products included in each box are designed to be a balanced combination of skincare and cosmetics products that work in harmony.  Each Mapleblume box contains up to $300 worth of products!

  • A Bi-Monthly Subscription to Mapleblume is: $120/month.

Botanic & Terre

Based out of Toronto, Botanic & Terre specializes in natural beauty and skincare products.  Unlike other beauty subscription boxes where every item is a surprise, Botanic & Terre allows you to pick your preferred colour, shade, flavour or fragrance type before receiving each delivery.

  • A Bi-Monthly Subscription to Botanic & Terre is: $44.99/month.

In time, for your time, every time.  That’s the slogan of this Vancouver-based ‘time of the month’ subscription box for women.  Every Ellebox contains 100% organic cotton pads and tampons, but also health, wellness, and comfort items.  In their most recent subscription box, Canadian skincare brand Nena was a highlight.  All their mineral-based skincare products exfoliate and decontaminate skin naturally and gently with glacial oceanic clay.

  • The Ellebox Essentials Box is $10.99/ month.
  • The Ellebox Comfort Box is $29.99/month.

Amoda Tea

Amoda is the Sanskit word for joy, peace, serenity and aroma which is the perfect name for a tea subscription box company based out of Vancouver.  The tea selection in each Amoda Tea box are all-natural with no artificial flavourings or sweeteners and many are organic and/or fair-trade.  Each pouch of loose-leaf tea contains brewing instructions for that particular blend of tea, so you can make the perfect cup.

  • A monthly subscription to Amoda Tea is $20/month.

Candy Experience

Based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Candy Experience is a family-owned business which delivers a surprise box of candy and chocolates from around the world.  Each Candy Experience Original Box includes 6-7 delicious mouthwatering flavours of candy: sweet, sour, spicy, nutty, and more, and every box contains close to 3lb of candy! Each variety of candy is sealed in a paper pouch to keep your candy fresh.  This one is definitely for sharing so gather up your friends with a sweet tooth, they’re going to want to know about this!

  • The Candy Experience Original Box is $29.95/month
  • The Candy Experience Personal Box is $21.95/month

Fresh Prep

Fresh Prep is a Vancouver-based food delivery program which preps and delivers healthy meals for its customers, making it as convenient as possible to get fresh, quality food on the dinner table.  I’ve been a regular subscriber for the past year and a half and not only has it added convenience to my life, but I’ve also picked up on little tips and tricks to inspire my cooking.  Here’s a sample Fresh Prep recipe for: Polenta Stacks With Balsamic Glazed Mushrooms And Poached Eggs.

  • Fresh Prep begins at $10/portion (min 2 portions per delivery).
