CBC Vancouver My Local Story

Pitch What Matters to You to CBC Vancouver with #MyLocalStory

Do you have a story that you’d like to share with the Vancouver community?  Beginning this month,  CBC Vancouver invites locals to share original pitches with CBC Vancouver News. The weekly What’s Your Story? segment will feature stories affecting communities and residents across Metro Vancouver, as submitted by the public.

#MyLocalStory video submissions will be reviewed by the CBC Vancouver team, with successful segment ideas airing on CBC Vancouver News, CBC Radio One and online at cbc.ca/bc.

“Telling local stories is at the heart of what CBC Vancouver is all about. The What’s Your Storysegment allows a greater voice for residents and helps us access the diversity of issues and narratives in our communities.” – Johnny Michel, Senior Managing Director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta

How to Submit Your “Pitch” for #MyLocalStory:

A pitch is a very common term used in the world of PR, marketing and journalism.  To “pitch” a story basically means you have an idea for a story, and would like to propose it to a media outlet, like CBC.

For the What’s Your Story? segment, Vancouverites have two ways to submit their ideas:

  1. Via Social Media: Send in your video pitches via CBC Vancouver’s social media channels using the hashtag #MyLocalStory, or via email to mylocalstory@cbc.ca.
  2. At a CBC Vancouver “Sound Booth”: The What’s Your Story? portable “sound booth” will be stationed in different locations throughout the city until November 30th. Upcoming locations include Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley on October 24 and The Nest at UBC on November 5.

For your story to be considered, your video submission should be no longer than 1 minute, and no more than 200 words.
