The highly anticipated Dine Out Vancouver is back for its 12th year as Canada’s largest annual celebration of eating out, attracting tens of thousands of local and visiting food enthusiasts to experience our city’s diverse collection of restaurants.
From January 18 to February 3, hundreds of notable Vancouver restaurants will be serving up three-course meals priced at $18, $28 or $38. In addition, a delicious schedule of culinary events allows festivalgoers to enjoy unique culinary experiences not normally available throughout the rest of the year. These can include guided dining adventures, culinary and cocktail tours, cooking classes and demonstrations, debates, guest lectures, BC wine and craft beer tastings, street food markets and more!
Through UrbanSpoon (the restaurant review site), Modern Mix Vancouver was recently invited to the media preview of the Dine Out Vancouver Festival at FanClub on Granville Street. Different booths offered a preview sampling of what they will be offering on their dine out menu as well as wine pairings. If you are a Fan of Southern-style comfort food, you’ll have to check out FanClub which has options of tiger prawn corn dogs, smoked brisket, chicken or pulled pork sandwiches and warm mini donuts on their $18 menu.
At Forage, a new Westcoast restaurant on Robson Street in the West End, their $28 Dine Out Vancouver menu uses products sourced from local and organic farmers, fishers and producers whenever possible. Shown above is one of the appetizer options: Game Terrine with IPA mustard, house made pickled vegetables, pickled walnuts.
For a $38 menu option, check out Market at Shangri-La Hotel, which offers Grilled Berkshire pork chips, steamed mushrooms and XO sauce as one of their main course options.
Although Dine Out is a wonderful reason to get together with friends and check out what culinary delights our city has to offer, what annoys me is how some restaurants offer certain options at an additional cost. This defeats the purpose of having a fixed-price menu, if you can only try certain options by paying additional dollars. In cases like this, they should just keep those options on their regular menu.
