Style & Packing Tips for a Long Weekend Summer Getaway

Packing for a long weekend getaway out of Vancouver doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, with just a few tips and reminders on what to stow away in your suitcase you’ll be ready for mini adventures at the drop of a hat. Read on to discover five essential items you need in order to pack both lightly and efficiently without having to sacrifice your style during your weekend getaway.

1. Comfortable Footwear

Flats, or at the very least a comfortable pair of shoes, are a must when you’re going on a weekend getaway. These don’t have to be a boring old pair of flip flops, though. Thanks to the latest trends, there’s a variety of appropriate styles to choose from.

I would definitely recommend a lace-up or gladiator style if you plan on wearing lots of shorts or hi-low dresses. If it’s the maxi or skinny jeans you’re thinking about packing, then try a pair of comfy wedges that have a modest incline, or the super trendy flatform. These would all work well on your trip, allowing for hours of pain-free sightseeing and shopping.

2. Lightweight Jacket

It may seem counterintuitive to pack a jacket when you’re escaping to someplace warm, but that couldn’t be more wrong. A lightweight coverup is a must for those chilly evenings, cold restaurant interiors, or even rainy days you might encounter at your destination.

Choose something with long sleeves that can be rolled up. Pieces like cardigans, casual blazers, and lightweight denim jackets are all recommended. And, if you’re feeling extra trendy, then consider bringing along your bomber jacket. From shorts and sneakers to dresses and heels, this style looks great paired with everything.

3. Maxi Dress

The maxi dress is a vacation lifesaver. If you pack nothing else, then please, invest in a great fitting, flowing, and colourful maxi dress for your long weekend getaway. Not only will it fit in at every tropical locale, it will also look effortless and stylish.

A boldly coloured or printed maxi is “the dress of your dreams”, thanks to it being high in style and low on fuss. Be sure to pack neutral shoes to pair with this piece, along with a few choice accessories, like a cute clutch, statement earrings and bangles, that can be mixed and matched. The great thing is that the maxi can go from day to night in a snap, and can even serve as a swimsuit coverup in a pinch.

4. Stretchy Jeans

Skinny jeans, the darker the better, are at the pinnacle of versatile fashion and definitely belong in your suitcase. Make sure you pack a pair with some stretch, so that when you’re walking around, dancing, or just doing your thing, they won’t get baggy and look a mess. Choose dark blue or black and pack tops and shoes accordingly.

Choose a pair of neutral shoes to wear with your skinnies. Wedges, flatforms, or even lace-up shoes that tie around the ankles would work well, as would a handful of brightly coloured tops. Choose midriff baring cuts, racer back styles, or just basic tanks, and use that versatile jewelry to dress them up.

5. Sun Protection

In addition to sunscreen, a wide brim hat and sunnies will also help shield your skin away from harmful UV rays.
