When the ever-popular Shark Club Bar & Grill closed its doors last April, it was a huge loss for sports fans. The Georgia Street sports bar first opened in 1993 and was the go-to place for locals, whether it was to watch a Canucks or Lions game or the memorable Canada gold medal hockey game at the Sochi Winter Olympics. So fans will be pleased to know that after a multi-million dollar re-haul, the Shark Club is back – only to be bigger and better.
Vancouver’s Shark Club will re-open to the public on December 1st for a celebratory night of specials and giveways. The new space is an impressive 9,250 square-feet and features a large open loft-style concept with a vintage sports theme. Designed by Daniel Meloche and Devonna Gaglardi, the duo has incorporated wrap-around score tickers and a 66-foot long bar made of industrial steel. The re-designed sports bar also encompasses two massive media walls and 60 flat-screen TVs perfect for viewing any sports event. When games are over, the lounge space turns into a dance floor where DJs will be spinning the latest beats.
Chef Brandon Thordarson has designed a menu which features classic snacks with a modern twist: from oven-roasted chicken wings and decadent Dirty chips (blue-cheese potato chip nachos with bacon) to healthier choices like the kale and quinoa salad and thai tuna salad. Also new to the menu are cocktails designed by Shark Club’s “All-Star Bar Team” – Gez McAlpine from the Keefer Bar, Justin Taylor from Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, Shaun Layton from the soon-to-be-opened Juniper, Grant Sceney who won the 2014 Diageo World Class Canada Bartender of the Year award, and Diageo Canada Ambassador, Joel Virginillo. On tap are beers from a variety of local and craft breweries as well as 5 oz beer flights.
To catch all the sports action in town, check out the Shark Club Vancouver located at 180 West Georgia Street beside Moxie’s Restaurant at the Sandman Hotel. The Shark Club will be open Sunday to Thursday from 11:00am to 1:00am and from 11:00am to 2:00am Friday and Saturday.
