Vancouver 2010 Olympics – Irish House

I went to the Olympic Irish House (620 Nelson Street) preview last night, a 9,000 square-foot pavilion house which is open to the public between February 8th to 28th. Located in a makeshift tent beside Doolins Irish Pub, this country pavillion reminds me of a typical beer garden crossed with a sports bar – complete with TV projections, a Nintendo Wii Station and a live band. Drink tickets can be bought for $8 to $9 – a preview of Olympics prices for the next month. There are two separate balconies accessible by stairs, and a sales booth by the entrance selling Celtic patterned jewelry. Click for photos and to continue reading.

DOMO – “Chocolate Ecstasy” Flavour-Infused Matcha

Domo Chocolate Matcha

This morning, despite the Vancouver sunshine, I was craving a warm beverage of some sort and came across a powder sample of Domo’s “Chocolate Ecstasy Matcha“. I’m pretty sure I got this little packet in a goodie bag from some sort of MMV-related event I went to several months ago, but haven’t had a chance to try this until now.

Chocolate Ecstasy fuses the soothing warmth of hot chocolate with the healthy and exotic taste of organic matcha, so you get the best of both worlds. It’s the perfect drink for a frosty winter morning or a cozy evening in. And you can use it to make an amazing chocolate martini or three, if you’re having one of those nights.

More chocolate than green tea match, this presweetened drink is easy to prepare. Just add a bit of hot water to dissolve the powder and top up with milk or a soy substitute for your daily calcium fix. This product is available at several groccery stores (especially health/natural food stores) in Vancouver, including Urban Fare and Capers.

Bombay Brow Bar

I had the opportunity to check out Bombay Brow Bar (1056 Mainland Street), a new concept boutique specializing in shaping your brows but with Yaletown service style. Newly opened by sisters Ravy and Amy Minhas, Bombay Brow Bar brings in a Bollywood experience, with a Yaletown twist! Ravy is a business graduate from Thomson Rivers University, while younger sister Amy is a freshly trained esthetician from Vancouver Community College.

Within six months, Noir has appeared in numerous media including The Globe and Mail and the 2009 Juno Awards. “It’s no wonder the city’s turned from lash virgins to full-blown lash addicts!” And now, congratulations once again, as Noir is opening its second location in South Granville – conveniently located next door to Pure Nail Bar and around the corner from Blo Blow Dry Bar. What a great addition to the neighbourhood!
