Two of Hearts – Boutique Opening (Saturday Feb. 14)

On Saturday February 14th (just another day, right?), Two of Hearts, a local fashion label, is having the grand opening of their boutique at 3728 Main Street. Visit on opening day, between 11am and 7pm, and share your love for fashion with the designers, Jenny Yen and Tabitha Savoie, who will be featuring a ten percent discount on their Togs, Two of Hearts and CiCi line.
.

They have chosen to decorate their establishment with the same twist that can be found in their creations; “the theme of the store is eco chic with a vintage twist” says Jenny. The new space, formerly Madison’s on Main, incorporates the old wooden racks with new wood floors to create a clean natural feel. While a mix of modern and antique furniture and a splash of sassy red paint makes it a fun and flirty environment to find that perfect Valentine’s Day dress.

.
Here’s another bonus: the first 25 people through the door will recieve gift bags packed with a whole bunch of nifty goodies from Vancouver artists.

Modern Mix Monday – Mavi Jeans

Looking for something to do? Every Monday morning, we present to you “Modern Mix Monday”, a brief but link-filled one-liner review of our past weekend loaded with suggestions to inspire you for your next!

I probably bought my first pair of Mavi Jeans 7 or 8 years ago and have gone through so many pairs by wearing them until they got all holey and patched up. I remember wishing for a replacement program for people like me who would wear their Mavi jeans to shreds! But then, for a couple of years, the styles went through a phase with stiff, coarse denim instead of the stretchier denim I was used to. Think “American Eagle” rough denim. So I stopped shopping for that brand and only started taking an interest in the brand again when free-standing shops started popping up around Vancouver.

.
Tonight, on a whim, I went to the Mavi Store in Gastown (359 Water Street) and was pleased to discover a pretty big sale going on. 50% off most items – in particular, tops (for both men and women) including and jeans. I bought a pair of black/grey-washed low rise skinny jeans in the “Lindy” style, and two sizes smaller than I would normally buy. (My first pair of skinny jeans!) But I know from experience, Mavi Jeans stretch out a lot! (But I mean that in a good way). It started getting cold outside so I ended up buying the jeans and wearing them out of the store in hopes of stretching them out sooner rather than later.

Mavi philosophy is to build a brand around perfect fitting jeans that convey a Mediterranean feeling in terms of fashion and detail. Maviterranean is sexy, intimate, inspirational and breezy. Mavi, which means blue in Turkish, is known for high quality, great fitting and fashion-forward denim.

Blubird Sale >> Blubird Hoodie

When I posted my entry on the Blubird Clothing Sale a few days ago, I mentioned that I was hoping to get my hands on the hoodie I’ve had my eye on since the boutique’s grand opening in August.
.
As I have mentioned before, brands at Blubird (1055 Alberni Street @ Burrard) include Juicy Couture, Vince, Marc by Marc Jacobs, J Brand, Dolce Vita, Earnest Sewn, True Religion and Victoria Couture Hello Kitty. However, I have to say, if I’m going to shop there, I prefer to purchase from their in-house Blubird clothing line with its assortment of hoodies in solid colors (with a contrasting lining and logo stitch) and brightly colored pashminas. The hoodie I bought was $75 on sale for $50. Unfortunately, the pashminas were at regular price for $40.
.
Yesterday, I finally got the chance to drop by and check out their pre-Christmas sale (20% to 50% off fall clothing). My Blubird hoodie purchase (dark grey zip-up with a bright pink logo stitch on the sleeve, and writing on the hood and the same pink lining the hood – see left) came with a pastel blue shopping bag with the Blubird logo on it. Same material as the black and red Lululemon tarpaulin bag. You can kind of see it in the background of my photo to the left.
.
Lastly, I know it’s Christmas-shopping season, but if my MMV blog postings have been any evidence of my shopping habits, it sure seems like I’ve bought a lot of presents for myself!!

Plen+y Sale >> Monk & Lou skirt

I stopped by the Plen+y flagship store on the corner of West Broadway and Mcdonald yesterday evening and was pleased to discover an ample amount of clothing on sale. Paper signs around the store announced 20% to 40% off selected stock. I ended up trying a couple of items but what I ended up purchasing was a high waisted, dark grey Monk & Lou grey dress-skirt with a subtle baby blue checkered pattern and pockets. It wasn’t exactly cheap or a good deal, and taxes added almost another $10 to my purchase. But it was already on sale, made in Canada, and 80% wool. If you’ve been reading my articles on all the autumn/winter fashion shows MMV has been attending, grey has been a prominent presence on the runway this season. That being said, grey matches with (almost) everything and is a whole lot trendier than black. I wouldn’t be surprised if Plen+y is advertising half-price clothing with an end-of-season sale in the coming weeks – but in my “shopping career”, I have developed the mentality that if it fits – buy it.
