Vancouver’s Top Chefs Unite for Lapu Lapu Tragedy Fundraiser

In a response to the tragic attack which took the lives of 11 people and injured dozens more at the Lapu-Lapu festival on Saturday night, Vancouver’s tops chefs are uniting for a unique fundraising event on May 26th (6pm-8pm) to support the victims and families of the worst mass violence in the City’s history.
Organized by Gourmet Warehouse owner Caren McSherry, the event is a show of love and solidarity between Vancouver’s culinary community and its beloved Filipino community, whose rich culture and generous spirit are such cherished parts of Vancouver’s cultural fabric.
The event, being held at Gourmet Warehouse, will see 11 of Vancouver’s most recognized and accomplished chefs donate their time and talent to support and honour the Filipino community with a special dish they will cook that evening. The chefs will include:
  • Angus An – Maenam & Fat Mao Noodles
  • Ned Bell – Ocean Wise Seafood
  • Christophe Bonzon – Chez Christophe
  • Andrea Carlson – Burdock & Co
  • Alex Chen – Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar and Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar
  • Rob Clark – CCO Organic Ocean Seafood
  • Thomas Haas – Thomas Haas Fine Chocolates & Patisserie
  • David Hawksworth – Nightingale and Hawksworth Restaurant
  • Scott Jaeger – Culinary Consultant and formerly Pear Tree
  • Frank Pabst – Blue Water Cafe
  • Maj Yee – Goldilocks Bake Shop
“When we heard the terrible news, our first thoughts were, how can we help,” says McSherry. “I want to thank each of these chefs for immediately saying yes to doing this. Unfortunately, this weekend’s event serves as a difficult reminder of just how precious every day is and how we need more access for mental health supports and programs for those that need them.”
Only 100 tickets will be sold online or in-store at $200+PST each, with all proceeds going to support the victims impacted by Saturday’s event.
