  1. My favourite holiday tradition is our Advent calendar, on which I write one family activity for us to enjoy each day of Advent. From the simple (reading a Christmas book) to the exciting (Van Dusen Garden’s festival of lights), it keeps us engaged with the holiday and each other instead of overrun by all of the holiday preparations.

  2. Being with my sister and we love to decorate the Christmas tree and have a glass of wine. We toast and say how grateful we are for everything we have, especially family.

  3. Our daughter’s birthday is Dec. 13th, so the day after her celebrations are over, we start decorating and baking. She always loves December because “it’s a party month!”

  4. Having people over to visit for the holidays. It’s great to see people we haven’t seen in a while. But the best part is eating yummy food, especially the stuffing for the turkey.

  5. Christmas is all about tradition and family. I got engaged last year so the traditions are changing to include both families. My in-laws-to-be have such a great tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve which is always a brand new homemade pair of pajamas. The love that goes into them make them the very best tradition that I am excited to continue for decades.

  6. My husband proposed to me on Christmas day right after our Christmas dinner last year. I would like to go to the same restaurant to have Christmas dinner every year.

  7. My favourite thing is to put up the Christmas tree. It’s up the first weekend of December through the first weekend in January. It just puts me in the holiday mood.

  8. My immediate family has a fondue for our Christmas supper, instead of the usual turkey dinner. We spend the evening cutting the veggies and preparing the fondue, eating the meal together, and enjoying each other’s company. It’s my favourite Christmas tradition!

  9. All time favourite tradition: MAKING EVERYONE CHRISTMAS CARDS. All hand done. Put on a little Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack music, get the watercolours, the glitter, the wrapping paper and for hours I’ll be hand crafting cards.

Another favourite thing is making mountains of short bread, butter-raisin tarts and minced meat tarts with my mom and eating half of them before they’ve even cooled down.

  10. My favorite holiday tradition is going out to get the tree, decorating and seeing the kid’s excitement when all complete! Also I love our traditional family meals both brunch and dinner!

  11. Crossing arms, holding our Christmas crackers around the table and singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” together before we eat, then pulling to pop them, see what “prize” you got, and everyone wearing the silly tissue crowns.

  12. The Cirlce Craft fair IS the tradition for my daughter and I. We go for a nice dinner or drinks after shopping. This year though is expecially exciting, as she is expecting her first baby (our first Grandbaby!!). Every year we check out all the fabulous baby stuff at the Fair and THIS year we get to buy ,Yipeee!! So the CCF is the beginning of our Christmas tradtions!

  13. I forget to say, it will just be dinner this year!! Well maybe a virgin cocktail for her and a glass of wine for me to toast the start of the holiday season!
