Shine Nightclub – “Experience Trance” (Sunday May 10th)
I met a new friend at the Markus Schulz concert last July, and of course, at things like this, you meet people who love the same type of music you do! Who would have predicted that nearly a year later, DJ Eric Allen would be one of the ones at the forefront of starting a trance night in Vancouver?!
.
A week from now, on Sunday May 10th, trance is attempting to make its way back into Vancouver with a bang. For Vancouver’s resident trance fans, limited options for a night of electronic music on the town are the norm and long has the city’s scene now been dominated by hip hop & top 40. On May 10th, at the sleek and stylish Shine Nightclub in Gastown, DJs Eric Allen (and my personal friend!), Marty Palin and Danny Taylor (resident DJ in Taipei’s Ministry of Sound) are bringing back the trance sound. As the second of two trial trance nights, May 10th hopes to bring out enough trance fans to make the night a regular staple in Vancouver’s nightlife scene.
.
On May 10th, come down, dance, relax and enjoy a fresh new sound in one of the hottest clubs in the city! With plenty of seating, an expansive main room and a smooth and relaxing second room, Shine is an ideal venue for this event and with your support hopes to hold many “Experience” Trance nights in the future. As the event is on a Sunday night, parking downtown is easy and available. Cover is FREE before 11pm. I’ll be there!

APPLE – New iPod Shuffle (3rd Generation)
The third generation iPod Shuffle is out and it’s smaller than your keys – about the size of your thumb! 1.8 inches tall and 0.3 inches thin. With 4GB of space, it can hold up to 1000 songs.
The newest technology in the 3rd generation iPod Shuffle is its “VoiceOver” function which tells you the artist name and song title, or the name of your playlist…in 14 different languages. When your battery is running low, VoiceOver will announce that as well. The controls of the new iPod shuffle are located on the earbud cord so it’s super convenient to quickly switch tracks and control the volume. Lastly on the actual iPod Shuffle, the switch has three positions. Flip it to the left, and your music shuffles in a random order. Flip it to the middle, and your songs play in order. And a quick flip to the right, turns the whole thing off.
At $99, it seems like the prices of the iPod just keeps getting lower as it becomes a staple accessory!
Coldplay – coming to Vancouver (June 20, 2009)
I just heard on the radio the other day that Coldplay will be performing on June 20th at GM Place this summer as part of their North American tour. Their most recent album, Viva La Vida, is nominated for a JUNO award for International Album of the Year. Tickets (from Ticketmaster) go on sale to the public this Saturday, March 14th at 10am with prices ranging from $49.50 to CA $97.50. Presale is on Friday March 13th at 10am but I haven’t found the password yet. It might be “yellow” but that could just be online speculation. Regardless, I have a feeling it will sell out. Tracklist for the album is below:
1. Life in Technicolor
2. Cemeteries of London
3. Lost!
4. 42
5. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
6. Yes
7. Viva La Vida
8. Violet Hill
9. Strawberry Swing
10. Death and All His Friends
Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008
So, this morning, on The Beat 94.5, they played a Mashup of Billboard’s Top 25 Pop Hits of 2008. DJ Earworm (pretty horrible name, eh? – sorry) used Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” as the background track and described the “Viva La Pop” mashup as a “symphonic feel”. It’s actually quite good and unusual for pop songs to be mixed together like this. I suppose it’s something different and refreshing from listening to Armin Van Buuren’s trance yearmix non-stop. Anyway, there’s a music video for it as well – You download it here. The tracklist is below:
