OOTD: Twirl Into Spring with Ever New’s “Positano Postcards” Collection

Ever New, one of Australia’s fastest growing apparel and accessories brands, made its Canadian debut last summer, and has already been rapidly expanding into the Canadian fashion scene with lower mainland locations at Pacific Centre, Metropolis at Metrotown, Richmond Centre and Guildford Town Centre.

Having recently visited their Pacific Centre location, Modern Mix Vancouver was introduced to their Canadian Spring 2016 collection: “Positano Postcards”.  Named after the charming Italian coastal town of Positano, a European vacation destination known for its pebble beachfront and steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes, Ever New’s Spring collection is inspired by a nostalgic seaside holiday.

Youthful and feminine ice-cream colours like turquoise, hot pink, powder blue and hints of pastel yellow are inspired by the candy painted, cliff-side homes of coastal Italy, while navy and white offer a nautical look and feel.  Florals, spots and stripe prints on mini shift dresses, full skirts, retro-printed jumpsuits, halter neck tops and high-waisted shorts offer a retro vibe reminiscent of the 50’s and 60’s.

A perfect example of this retro vibe in Ever New’s Spring 2016 collection is the Felicity Polkadot Hanky Hem Dress, which pairs perfectly with open-toed sandals, and a cropped cardigan or denim jacket.  The high-low hemline makes it a great transitional piece from Spring into Summer, and the light, airy material makes you want to twirl!

As for fit, in general, I have quite narrow shoulders compared to the rest of my body, so typically, if an item fits everywhere else, it’s too roomy in the shoulders. I had the same challenge at Ever New, there was an off-centre khaki vest zip-up, as well as a beautiful floral patterned dress I had my eye on, but it was either too wide and boxy in the shoulders or too tight at the hips. The Felicity Polkadot Dress ended up fitting the best because of the adjustable spaghetti straps, as well as the flowing hi-low hem, which hides any imperfections a tighter dress may highlight.

Also, remember that Ever New is an Australian company so the tags list Australian sizes first – don’t let that throw you off.

As an alternative to dresses and tops at Ever New, I recommend trying on their denim! The material is ultra-stretchy; had I not gone with the dress (which I picked because it embodies the Positano Postcard look so well), I would have chosen a pair of ripped denim instead.
